FREEHOLD CLERKENWELL HOUSE

A fine example of an exquisite Grade II listed freehold house, in arguably the most sought-after street in Clerkenwell.

Dating date to c.1834, the house was the home of Robert Bunting a well-known Lapidarist and more recently the house was a renowned Silversmiths work shop, where national treasures such as the FA Cup, Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Trophies and Royal Silverware were repaired and maintained.

The house set over four floors and comprising approx. 1708 sq ft was the subject of a complete refurbishment and rebuilding project in 2007 when the then owner, worked with British heritage to preserve and retain many original features. The current owners have further upgraded and refined the house with a stunning kitchen/dining room fitted with Gaggenau appliances, bespoke cupboards and wardrobes, striking bathroom, and landscaped garden.

The house offers very fluid and versatile accommodation with an open plan ground floor kitchen/dining room, perfect for entertaining and a formal first floor drawing room with floor to ceiling sash windows and an original fireplace as well as a fully fitted home office, which could be converted/used as a fourth bedroom.

The master bedroom suite comprises the whole of the top floor of the house with ample built in wardrobes and a delightful spacious shower room. On the lower ground floor there are two further double bedrooms one which houses the original range as well as a guest shower room.

To the rear of the house is an enchanting 30 ft landscaped courtyard garden believed to be one of the largest in Sekforde Street.

Throughout the house there is superb storage with a large loft, small outhouse as well as access to under pavement vaults.

Sekforde Street takes its name from an Elizabethan man of law, Thomas Sekford (1517-1587) who bequeathed a part of his Clerkenwell estate. He was a lawyer and MP under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The estate (as we know it) began its redevelopment in the late 1820's with the layout of the street designed by C.R. Cokerall (surveyor) and his assistant James Noble.

The houses were mainly occupied by skilled craftspeople, typically engaged in jewellery, clock and watch making, working precious metals, building, and printing. Sekforde Street was the most important of the streets laid out on the Sekforde Estate in the late 1820's and is currently the best preserved, still retaining most of its original houses.

Moments from Clerkenwell Green and Exmouth Market the house is located in the heart of Clerkenwell, close to Farringdon Station which is on the Circle, Metropolitan, Hammersmith and City Lines as well as providing a mainline link to Luton and Gatwick airports and will benefit from Crossrail, due to open in 2022 with a direct link to Heathrow and Canary Wharf.

Clerkenwell is well known as London's design quarter attracting some of the most renowned Architect practises as well as bespoke furniture companies. It is also conveniently located to the City's financial district as well as the four Inns of Court.

This is a unique opportunity to acquire a freehold house on one of Clerkenwell's most prestigious streets.
